Our Trip to Barcelona, Spain

I’m always a fan of something tropical, especially palm trees. Paris is magnificent and is my dream destination, but Barcelona is really something else. I was astonished by how beautiful the city is. Every place and buildings were constructed beautifully. Originally, my beau and I had been planning a trip to Paris for our anniversary trip since last year, but the plan changed a bit when my cousin and I planned a Paris trip last February (see here). Barcelona was our 2nd choice since we really really want to see the Sagrada Familia. For some instance, our anniversary trip then turned into a family trip. Who doesn’t want to travel with the whole family, right?

We started our trip at Plaça de Catalunya  (I just realized that I don’t have picture lol) – very centric square, connected with lots of public transportation, bus, subway, and taxis and also a place for shopping – where we met my uncle & my cousin and had an early lunch at Trobador in the corner of La Rambla. Our first meal? An authentic Paella, of course! One of the things I love the most about travelling is trying out their local foods. From that moment, I knew that we’re going to pig out the whole trip. As expected, we’re trying hard to be local again by speaking their language, Spanish. “Bonjour” and “merci” were out, “hola” and “gracias” were in! No dull moments with my travel squad. After we ate, we head over to our hotel that we booked through Booking.com (sign up here, book your stay and a reward). We got the dormitory style hotel and I highly recommend it if you’re travelling by group; it’s way too cheap and fun since you could have a bonding together! Our hotel was HolidaysBCN — we only payed 35€ per person for 3 days & 2 nights — and it has an easy access to the metro and the bus station. No hassle!

After we drop our things, we headed to Sagrada Familia — the most visited landmark in Spain — and I can’t help but stare at its beauty the whole time. Wow. It’s breathtaking and I was completely blown away. My beau and I just stood there and appreciate how beautiful it is.

Palm trees everywhere. I’m in love!It reminded me so much of the arc in Paris except that it is color orange :p

At the end of the walk is where Parc de la Cuitadella located. Good thing it’s Spring already, and flowers are starting to blossom. Obviously, I couldn’t help but take a picture. Lol.  We spent the rest of the night at a local restaurant near Arc de Triomf. Guess what we ate? Paella, of course. Also, football was on TV and it was Barcelona vs Rome! That awkward moment when you want to cheer for Italy but you’re in Barcelona. Better shut up and just watch haha.

Our day didn’t just end there because what are vacations for, right? Although hotel policy says we can’t drink in the hotel, we still brought some bottle of beers because YOLO! Oops, sorry for breaking the rules.

Our second day in the city started a little bit fine, when suddenly someone stole my uncle’s phone in the metro. Oh no! Just a reminder to always pay attention to your belongings, especially when traveling. You never know. Anyway, we just decided to grab some breakfast first at Store Cafe. I highly recommend this place, their breakfast was so nice! We originally planned to start our day 2 trip at Park Guell since it’s a bit out of the way to our next destination. We tried to go in at around 10 in the morning but we failed to enter the park because it was already fully booked, so we had to return at 6pm to get in. If you’re also planning to visit the place, I suggest you to book online to save you the hassle.

In the meantime, we decided to go to our next destination, Place d’Espanya, that is located in one of the most beautiful districts of Barcelona. The place somehow reminded me of Venice because of the two great Venetian towers. Its most important features include the large fountain at the center of the square and the Las Arenas shopping center.

Looking for some souvenirs? You’ll find the cheapest souvenirs around the area.

Across the square is the Museu Nacional de Catalunya where you can also find the Magic fountain of Montjuic. It is a spectacular display of colour, light, motion, music and water acrobatics and if you mix all these elements together in just the right combinations, you end up with pure magic. We spent most of our time here since the place looks really magical and majestic. We can’t stop taking photos, every corner is really gram worthy! If you’re following me on instagram, you probably have an idea about what I’m talking about.

You can also see a panoramic view of Barcelona. What a nice view to rest! It’s very relaxing. We had to sip some lemonade and enjoy this beautiful view.

After that, we grabbed some lunch and head directly to Casa Batllo, one of Gaudi’s masterpieces and it really stands out from the rest of the house beside it with its intricate details.

We also passed by Casa Mila-La Pedrera. I was also intrigued by its detailed architecture and its ironic allusion to the resemblance of its facade to an open quarry.

…and also Casa Vicens with its colorful ceramic details. Barcelona is really Gaudi’s city!

And finally, we got inside Park Guell! I don’t know why, but it kind of reminded me of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs because it looks like their mini wonderland. I felt like a kid once again.

The park is indeed photogenic, but it’s really hard to take decent photos because it’s bombarded with people. It took us hundreds of photos to get the “perfect shot.” We failed, not to mention the guy photobombing at my back. Lol.

We ended our day at a local kebab restaurant near our hotel. We were tired, but we had fun. Look at my momma being a millennial lol

For the 3rd day, our last day, our first stop was Barcelona Cathedral. We gave thanks to our Lord God for this wonderful and safe trip.

We had our lunch at Tobogan restaurant at Placa Reial. I love their food, the ambiance, the service and the people. Everything is perfect. I ate ham & egg plus arroz negro. Yummers! My tummy is growling while I type this, I can’t help but be hungry. Haha. We also tried authentic churros. In short, we pigged out again.

Some beer in the morning? Why not? A great way to start the day right!

After we ate brunch, we brought my dad to Camp Nou since he loves football so much. We were in Barcelona, there’s no way he would go home without passing by the stadium. Here’s his happy self!

We decided to return to Sagrada Familia, so we could have our last glimpse of it. Wow, really, wow. Barcelona is such a beautiful city. I am very happy that we got to spend our 2nd anniversary in the city. I will surely come back if I will be given a chance.

If you read everything from the top, I’d like to thank you and your patience. Haha. Until my next travel post! Next destination? Any guesses where? :)
