A Letter To My 16-Year Old Self

If you could write a letter to your younger self, what would you write? What would you tell your yourself? I am encouraging everyone to write a letter to their younger self. Reflect, reminisce and write. It’s a very emotional one to write, but you will feel great after. Feel free to share yours with me :)

Dear sixteen-year old Fae,

My little lady. I know you are still confused with what you want to do with your life. Hold on little girl, God has a plan for you. You are still young and you have to enjoy every single day of it. You are lovely, fragile and sensitive. You are worth more than you know, and anyone who tells you otherwise is just wrong. Let go of the people who make you feel like you are worthless. Do not listen to what other people are saying. Labels don’t define you. You are far better than that. Do not doubt yourself and do not let the ghosts of your past ruin your future.

You’re in your college days now. I can feel you’re afraid. Stay strong, my dear. You’re going to meet new people. Don’t be afraid to go out of your own shell. Introduce yourself and make new friends. Don’t be afraid. Some of your friends may have stabbed you in your back, and hurt you so much but forgive them. Wipe those tears, they are not worth it.

Do not drown yourself in school works. You have to unwind sometimes. Go out and explore! Have a good time. Woah. I bet you went partyin’ for the first time. Did you have fun? So you are drinking now, and sneak into your Business Math class drunk. Is that good? I know you will not repeat it again and I know you didn’t harm yourself. Do not ever harm yourself. You don’t want to struggle.

I know you are too young for love, and a man broke your heart at the age of 13, but I am so proud that you stand so strong, move on and allow yourself to love again. Oh my sweet girl, you are so young and in love. I bet he’s really making you happy. I can see it in your sparkling eyes. You know your limitations, and your parents trust you. Love is a maturing process. Do not rush things.

Take some time to worry about yourself. Breathe. You are beautiful. Your gorgeous brown eyes, beautiful long straight hair, your smile and everything about you. You are not fat, not even a little. Stop dieting. Eat whatever you want. You are beautiful inside and out. Again, do not listen to what other people are saying. You know yourself better.

Honey, never be afraid of failures. Nobody’s perfect. Yes, you are going to go through hard times, but you are brave, you can handle things. Those tough times are going to shape you to be the best version of yourself. Focus on your goals and dreams. Find the true meaning of happiness. One day, this will all make sense :)

Love your older, wiser and stronger self
